DMV Vermont: Registration and Titling







Vehicles  Registration  & Titling in VT:

Complete a Vermont Registration, Tax, and Title application (VD-119) and submit it (together with the following documentation and the appropriate fees) to the Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles. Here is most common documents you may need to present: .
  • Title application (VD-19)and dealer 
  • Manufacturer's Statement of Origin for new vehicles or title for used, Report of sale if dealer purchase.
  • Lien holder information, if vehicle is financed.
  • Proof of residency (bank statement, lease or mortgage agreement, driver's license, etc. only for private sale).
  • Payment for tax & registration fees.
  • The state and city fees will be collected as different transactions, so you will need to make out separate checks, money orders, or credit card payments.
  • VT Bill of sale and odometer discloser statement (Only for private sale)
  • VIN Verification if the title is not a Vermont title or the title is branded Salvage (Only for private sale)

1. Vehicle purchased from a VT dealership:

VT Dealership will collect sales tax and fees also  process your title & registration  paperwork behalf of you.

2. Vehicle purchased from an out-of-state dealership:

If it is a brand-new vehicle,  Bill of sale, title application, a Manufacturers Statement of Origin (MSO) or title is required. Please provide proof of residency if you have not already done so as established by your town/city.

3. Registering a vehicle purchased in a private sale: 

Bring assigned title certificate to the nearest DMV location  where you live & provide proof of residency in case if you haven't done. VIN Verification if the title is not a Vermont title or the title is branded Salvage 

4. As New Resident: 

First go to your town/city clerk's office to determine your residency and start your registration process at DMV. Once residency is determined by your town or city clerk, if you have the title of your vehicle or it is exempt from title you may process the entire transaction at DMV office. If you have an out-of-state loan or are leasing the vehicle, you will get temporary plate.

tRANSFER OWNERSHIP



·        Complete the entire Vermont Motor Vehicle Registration, Tax and Title Application (form #VD-119).
·        Be sure to enter the Plate number that you are transferring.
·        You must complete Section 7 of the Vermont Registration Application
OR
Send in your current Vermont Registration with the "Transfer Section" completed.
·        A change of legal ownership of the vehicle you are transferring from must occur before a transfer of registration will be allowed.


VT DMV Auto fees And Tax:

  1.  VT Sales Tax: 6% on Purchase price (Registration fees: 76 (6 additional fees if vehicle is new & All other vehicles - $2,075 maximum)
  2. Title fees: 35 (11 more if vehicle has Lien)
  3. Transfer fees: $25 (When you transferring Reg &Plates)
